The Whispered Verdict is a student documentary based on an inhuman ritualistic practice in Tamil Nadu called Thalaikoothal. It is a form of senicide (abandonment to death or killing of the elderly) illegally practiced in various southern parts of the state.
During the making of the film, we personally visited 8 villages and documented their state of affairs.
Though this issue came into the limelight in 2010, there is still a dire need for it to come to the attention of the Central Government.
Often, without even realising, we abandon our elders mentally, if not physically. This documentary will give the senior citizens a chance to voice their plight.
Our effort may be just a drop in the ocean. However, as David Mitchell rightly put, what is an ocean but a multitude of drops?
