“It’s not sculpture. It's not just an art object. It’s a thing that shapes how we live."
Michael Kimmelman writes to remind us what purpose architecture serves in our lives and our communities and the important role architects and designers play in shaping our cities. He makes the case that we are in a moment of change in architecture, in a world that is remaking itself while pressing the importance of opening up the conversation to design for the collective health of our cities.
Michael Kimmelman is an architecture critic for The New York Times. Over the course of his career, he has investigated and written about everything from labor and refugee camps, waterfront parks, sea-level rise and has reviewed the work of major international architects such as Alejandro Aravena, David Adjaye, Norman Foster, and Diller Scofidio + Renfro. His architecture and design criticism stretches the boundaries of conventional architecture critics, and he is often described as a prolific and innovative "people's critic,' looking at architecture through a lens of usefulness for improving people's quality of life in cities and reminding us why it matters to our everyday lives.

reSITE is an international platform connecting people and ideas to improve the urban environment. We work at the intersection of architecture, urbanism, politics, culture, and economics.
We feature thought leaders whose work pushes the boundaries on how we build, design, regenerate and create life in cities, and frame them through many lenses, convening them in one place. We act as a catalyst for social action and innovative leadership. We encourage an exchange of ideas about making cities more livable, competitive, and resilient. We protect and promote public space, architecture, and sustainable development in cities.
All to make our cities more livable, competitive, resilient, inclusive, mobile, and designed with humans in mind.
