I set out early this morning, excited to film a vlog about visiting the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad. It was a perfect day, with the air carrying a mix of city buzz and quiet promise. But, as is often the case when exploring new places, distractions have their own plans.
On my way, I came across an intriguing old brick gateway. It looked like the entrance to a park, inviting yet unassuming. Curious, I stepped through, only to discover that it wasn’t a park at all—it was the entrance to Gujarat Vidyapith University, an institution founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920.
Just as I was trying to absorb this unexpected discovery, I met K.K. and Pares, the university’s PR ambassadors. They were incredibly welcoming and insisted on showing me around. What was meant to be a brief detour turned into an incredible three-hour journey through history and culture.
We toured multiple museums within the university, each filled with artifacts and stories that brought Gandhi’s ideals to life. One of the most surreal moments was stepping into the residence where Gandhi lived while establishing the school. I was invited to lie down on the simple floor of his quarters, just as he once did. It was a moment of quiet reflection, a pause to feel the weight of history in a way that no camera could ever truly capture.
By the time I left Gujarat Vidyapith, I realized my original plan couldn't compare to what I had experienced. This spontaneous detour had gifted me something far more meaningful: an intimate connection with Gandhi’s legacy and two new friends who shared it with such passion.
