ABOUT TODAYS VIDEO: Xylitol Poisoning In Dogs
If your dog consumes xylitol, it quickly gets into their bloodstream, producing a flood of insulin from a stressed pancreas. This lowers your dogs blood sugar level leading to hyperglycemia within the hour. And it can be potentially life threatening.
If your dog has liver related health problems, getting into a household product containing xylitol can be fatal so be very careful what you leave around the house that your dog can get to.
Here are the symptoms of dog xylitol poisoning to look out for:
1. Seizures
2. Depression
3. Weakness and possible shaking or shivering
4. Staggering, swaying or dragging feet
5. Uncoordinated movements
6. Loss of control as if a little drunk
7. Vomiting or heaving
The best thing to have on hand is Glutathione an exceptionally powerful antioxidant. Glutathione is in every cell in the body and protects the mitochondria that run the cell from oxidation.
Glutathione is vital to life and in its highest concentrations in the liver, the bodies largest organ of detoxification. Glutathione works to keep the liver healthy.
I recommend you have some glutathione on hand in case of emergency and just follow the mixing instructions on the packet. It mixes into water and swallowed but if your dog won't consume the liquid, you'll need to use a large syringe to get the liquid down your dogs throat in an emergency.
If you don't have any glutathione on hand, rub some honey on your dogs gums to raise blood sugar levels and take your dog to the emergency vet.
I also recommend you give your dog a milk thistle tincture as soon as possible after the consumption of Xylitol. Give 10ml for every 15lbs of your dogs weight in an emergency and continue treatment for one month at 15ml per 30lb of your dogs weight twice daily to protect and rejuvenate your dogs liver.
