Hellcat Jailbreak Warranty Scandal: Dodge and Toxic Online Comments Backlash

Customer states the car’s engine blows up, with a dead miss on cylinder No 7 (P0307) and grinding noise in drive train. The owner is an older gentleman, that was happy to get his dream car, only to find it turn to a nightmare, when the Dodge dealerships forwards the claim up to corporate, where they deny the claim!

There are plenty of red flags. From the car having a blown engine AND a blown transmission, indicating abuse, to Dodge changing the story from denial of warranty over a mid-muffler delete, stating that will require a tune (something that is known in the car world to not be true) to stating the car’s ECU was tampered with and tuned.

The bottom line is, this is becoming a high profile case, with more channels covering it, including @racerX9

Note that the Carscoops article website still contains the old article title, and while I don’t trust modern online news sites, one can assume at least basic investigation was done (ha!).

Still, the biggest thing to me were the comments. The comments are from people that don’t have even the most basic car knowledge, much less being part of Car Culture. The attitude is downright hostile if not hateful towards the owners of the Dodge. Maybe jealousy plays a part, but us car nuts, gearheads don’t have this problem. You can have a guy with a 500 dollar beater talking to a guy with a million dollar Lamborghini. A guy with a Mercury Grand Marquis being buds with a guy that owns an original Ford GT40.

Bonus tips on installing the weird Ford/Mercury wheel covers. They simulate allows fairly well, with enough complexity to not look cheap. They screw onto the lug nuts, and hide the hardware with center caps. Cool!

Back to the comments. It disappointed me. I realize most of those people treat cars like an appliance, and don’t understand our need to scrounge for the NOS original part for a restoration, cleaning and babying a car to preserve it, or re-inventing the wheel, re-engineering a car by modifying it, to get that one extra horsepower.

They don’t get it.

And ultimately, Carscoops doesn’t get it, and definitely not their reader base.

Their blood runs thin, unlike ours!
