On my 22-day Alaska cruise aboard the Ruby Princess, I booked the Hubbard Glacier & Wilderness Exploration excursion as a solo traveler — a small boat experience that allowed us to leave the ship and get dramatically closer to the face of North America’s largest tidewater glacier.

Was it expensive? Yes.
Was it worth it? I break that down in this video.

Hubbard Glacier is:
• 76 miles long
• 7 miles wide
• Approximately 600 feet tall (with 350 feet above the waterline)
• Advancing — unlike many other Alaska glaciers
• And the ice at its face fell as snow up to 500 years ago

We witnessed active calving, navigated through floating ice, and even stopped by a sea lion colony on our way back to the ship.
