Spearheaded by the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), the initiative was envisioned as a key development that would ensure Ghana’s oil and gas sector was supported with the necessary infrastructure for its operations, including fabrication, exploration, and supply chain activities.

The Takoradi Harbour, long recognized as a critical point in Ghana’s maritime and industrial framework, needed this modernized facility to stay competitive. The oil and gas sector, with its ever-evolving demands, required dedicated services and advanced infrastructure to optimize its potential. The GPHA, understanding these needs, committed to this $98 million project—a bold step toward placing Takoradi Harbour as a leader in the region’s marine and energy industries.

Fast forward to November 22, 2024, nearly two years after the sod-cutting ceremony, the promise of that vision materialized. On that day, President Akufo-Addo, having just commissioned the Tema-Mpakadan railway line earlier, swiftly traveled to the Western Region to inaugurate the completed Oil and Gas Services Terminal. The commissioning was not merely a ceremony; it was the culmination of efforts aimed at transforming Takoradi into a regional powerhouse in oil and gas services.

The newly developed terminal is a marvel of modern engineering and strategic planning. Covering a sprawling 20-hectare area, it boasts a 550-metre primary quay wall facility, offering a -10m water depth at its berths. This depth ensures that large vessels critical to the oil and gas industry can dock seamlessly, facilitating smoother operations. Additionally, the quay features a 40-metre quay apron, designed to enhance terminal activities by providing ample space for heavy equipment, storage, and logistical operations. This advanced setup is not just a testament to the growth of Ghana’s oil and gas infrastructure but a signal to global investors that the country is ready to take its place as a key player in the industry.
