We are the "History in 3D" team and our goal is to create the most detailed, accurate and complete 3D reconstruction of ancient Rome.

This time I will show you Rome as it was decorated for the triumphs and feasts. We will see what the triumphal procession on the Forum looked like.

In 303 CE, Diocletian arrived in Rome and celebrated a triumph for his various victories. It was the last time an emperor climbed Capitoline Hill and sacrificed to Jupiter Optimus Maximus.Therefore, the state of the forum is shown as of the beginning of the 4th century CE. (although the dating of some monuments is controversial - some of them are attributed to Diocletian or Maxentius)

At the head of the procession were the trophies, and noble captives could also be led. Then came the emperor in a chariot drawn by four horses.He was in triumphal attire and a wreath. The emperor was followed by his army, in togas and without weapons. The procession could be long.Here we show the procession entering the Forum from the Via Sacra.
Buildings and monuments were decorated with garlands and wreaths of laurel, oak, etc., entwined with multi-colored ribbons and decorated with flowers. Trophies, standards were also displayed, everything could be decorated with multi-colored banners. Fires were lit on the surrounding altars, sacrifices were made, and priests lined up on the steps of the temples.

Filled with magnificent temples, monuments, sanctuaries, the Forum Romanum was the heart of the Roman world.Here, like nowhere else, the thousand-year history of a great civilization was reflected, including those fleeting "golden ages" that so rarely befall humanity.
