I restored this Carver flybridge yacht to be an expedition boat. The intent was to be able to go to the most remote, uninhabited islands of the Bahamas and stay all summer. The range of the boat was extended with another 50 gallons of gas that can be pumped into the main tanks while underway. There is another set of pumps that can pump gas between the two main 50 gal tanks so all fuel can be used even with one of the two engines out. There are two Mercruiser engines with Mercruiser alpha one outdrives with about 200-300 hours on each.
There is 3,600 watts of solar and 15KWH of LiFePo4 battery capacity for the solar that runs the AC appliances through a 3KW inverter. A 1500 watt emergency inverter is in place and wired, so you can turn it on just by flipping its circuit breaker.
The solar runs an air conditioner, the boat's small fridge, a larger fridge and a freezer that holds enough cooked and frozen food from home to last all summer. The microwave can also be used as a convection oven, but I prefer to cook everything ahead of time and go from freezer to fridge for a few days before microwaving and eating.
The boat has a pressurized water system, so it works just like at home. Water comes out when you turn the tap and a pump restores pressure when the pressure drops. The bathroom has a shower, sink and electric toilet that pumps into a holding tank that gets pumped out at the dockside stations for that.
A removable table is in front of a spacious sofa. The table top lowers so the sofa becomes a bed with extra cushions that store in a convenient cabinet with the bedding when you want a sofa and table instead of a bed. The vee berth in the bow of the boat is another place to sleep. Two couples could sleep in the boat comfortably.
The boat has an electric windlass for raising and lowering the anchor from the helm, and an oversized anchor rated for 50 foot boats in winds up to 50 MPH. There is a backup Fortress anchor also rated for 50 foot boats.
The Carver 2767 Santego has been extensively modified with a really helpful countertop at the back and a "generator doghouse" is an integral part of the countertop. It fits the Honda 2KW generators and knockoffs. Its mainly a relic from when the 600 watts of solar wasn't always enough if there were several cloudy days in a row. It could fit a backup generator or be storage or be cut off to make the countertop bigger.
A storage locker on the back deck was added to utilize space taken up above sloped windows. A new wall where the windows were now holds the charge controllers for the solar. A walkway was cut from the flybridge directly onto the front deck, mainly for anchor handling before the windlass was added. This makes it easy to get to the front deck, where deck boxes add storage and create a safe area where it is impossible to fall overboard if you are between them. One holds an extra 50 gallons of gas that can be pumped to the main tanks while underway, I use one for the dinghy outboard, another for the grill and charcoal, and another for life jackets.
The dinghy is a DockTech plastic model which is UV resistant and cannot rot or puncture. An ATV winch on the rear solar panel rack can raise and lower it from special holders fiberglassed to the dive platform.
I want to sell it for two reasons. One, I have too many boats and this is the only one too heavy to tow behind my car. You need a pretty good tow vehicle, and Jeff from Xcel Marine always put it in and took it out for me. His shop was replaced by parking for cruise ship passengers, so I have to hire someone every time it goes in the water or comes out. It comes with a three axle trailer. The boat weighs about 10,000 pounds.
The other reason is that some solar should come off if its going to cross open ocean. It rocks more than it did before the extra 3KW of solar was added up top. It would be fine in protected water without big swells. It could go to the Bahamas on a calm day, but I have seen occasional squalls turn up out of nowhere with big wind and waves that could possibly lead to unfortunate outcomes. If you just wanted to park it somewhere and live in it, this is a perfect efficiency apartment with all the electric free. Its fine for the ICW, rivers or inland lakes but maybe risky in open ocean is what I'm trying to warn about.
This is Valentine's day, Feb 14th 2026. I have a ton of other stuff to do before I get to this boat. Eventually, I will start taking half of the upper solar panels off and cutting the rack back in size. If you want all the solar, hopefully you contact me before I start sawing stuff apart. Assuming I can find someone to move the boat, I'll try launching it again with less solar. If it seems OK, then its stops being for sale and I take it to the Bahamas.
