Описание: A Winogradsky column is a simple DIY experiment that models microbial ecosystems in soil. To make one, mix mud with a carbon source like shredded newspaper and a sulfur source like egg yolk, then pack it into a clear jar and cover it with pond water. Over several weeks in indirect light, layers of colorful microbes will appear as different species grow in response to oxygen, light, and nutrients. This vibrant column demonstrates microbial diversity, metabolism, and how microbes shape their environment, just as Sergei Winogradsky first showed over a century ago.
