Lincoln County Animal Services has confirmed the county's 10th, 11th and 12th rabies cases of 2025, involving a skunk, raccoon and kitten in separate incidents across the county.
The first case involved a skunk that entered a home through a dog door along Bess Chapel Church Road in Cherryville on Sept. 7. Animal Services received confirmation of a positive rabies test for the skunk on Sept. 10. There was no documented exposure to humans or pets, but the specimen was submitted for testing due to abnormal behavior.
Also on Sept. 7, a resident on Curve View Road in Lincolnton reported a raccoon acting aggressively toward a human and getting into an altercation with their dog. Animal Services confirmed a positive rabies test for the raccoon on Sept. 10. There was no documented exposure to the human involved. The dog, which had an expired rabies vaccination, received a booster vaccination and returned home to complete a 45-day observation period. #News #Animals #Health
