Catholic Words and Games will provide parents, grandparents, teachers, homeschoolers, catechists and youth ministers a fun way to help teach Catholic vocabulary words. Watch your little one’s excitement at Mass when they recognize the vessels, objects and vestments used in the liturgy. Introducing these words will help prepare them to receive the Sacraments and inaugurate a lifelong journey of learning about the wonders of their Catholic faith.

At the core of the Catholic Words & Games app are over 65 colorful flash cards of liturgical vessels, vestments and other Catholic objects and sacramentals created just for this app.

Select among six different play modes. Advance the flash cards by swiping or select the slideshow feature where you determine the time interval between images. Hear the name of the objects properly pronounced by a professional voiceover artist. Tap the dictionary icon for a glossary entry with a real-world picture of the item.

The flash card deck is fully customizable—pick and choose which cards to include in the deck to tailor for little ones just starting their faith journey. Save multiple card groups for later use. Other settings allow you to turn the voiceover, music, sound effects and looping on or off. The cards can appear in random or alphabetical order. You can even choose to have the names displayed in ALL CAPS, all lower case or Mixed Case.

In addition to the Catholic Flash Cards module, enjoy 4 fun learning games to further reinforce the vocabulary words:

About the Designer: Dan Gonzalez

I am a graphic designer, but much more importantly, a dad. This app began with my own desire to teach the names of liturgical objects to my own children—Matthew 6, and Zoe, 5.

I started out by designing and illustrating some cards that I made available on my blog for free:

To my surprise it was downloaded over a thousand times and shared extensively through social media. I was even contacted by the Catholic Diocese of Oslo who asked that I translate the cards for them into Norwegian.

My first 18 black and white cards spawned the creation of two decks of cards with 56 full-color illustrations. They can be seen here:

This showed me that there is a need for this type of catechetical product.

Since children learn faster when more of the senses are involved, I wanted to develop an app that would use sound, motion and interaction.
