He was born Elisha Vanslyck Cook Jr. in San Francisco, California, on December 26, 1903, but raised in Chicago. His father was a journalist and playwright, his mother, a stage actress. Elisha left school after 3 years in high school to play vaudeville and doing stage work. His big break came when he got a role in Eugene O'Neill’s “Ah, Wilderness”, acting along side George M. Cohan.
From there it was on to Hollywood. He did both films and television for over 50 years. He is one of those people that you have seen a million times even if you don’t know his name. Some of his more famous movies were The Maltese Falcon (1941), Dillinger (1945), The Big Sleep (1946), The Great Gatsby (1949), Don't Bother to Knock (1952), The Killing (1956), House on Haunted Hill (1959), and Rosemary's Baby (1968). But there were many, many more.
I hope you enjoy watching this as much as I did making it.
