First Alert Weather: Tornado watch issued for northwest Georgia counties

This is an unusually favorable setup for severe weather, including violent tornadoes capable of staying on the ground for many miles. There is currently a High Risk of severe weather in Alabama and Moderate Risk for portions of metro Atlanta. Everyone is at some risk for severe weather.

A broken line of thunderstorms will move into Cleburne and Randolph Counties in Alabama between 6 and 8 p.m. Eastern. (5 and 7 p.m. central time)

Storms gradually shift eastward through the evening. Rough weather moves into the city of Atlanta between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. Any of these thunderstorms could produce tornadoes, destructive wind gusts and large hail. Severe storms continue eastward into the early hours of Sunday morning. Large hail, damaging wind gusts and tornadoes will be possible in east Georgia, as well.
