Temple of Heaven Architecture Explanation
Temple of Heaven (Tian Tan) was built in year 1420 with a total area of 270 acres, this is the largest architectural complexes altar for religious worship in Beijing (Pekin) China, located in Tiantan Road, Dongcheng District, Beijing 100050, China. Which was originally used by the Ming and Qing dynasty Emperors to pay homage to Heaven and to pray for a year of rich harvest.

The architecture and set up of the temple of Heaven is according to elaborate symbolism and numerology. In accordance with principles going back to pre-Confucian times, the buildings in the Temple of Heaven are round, similar to the sky, while the fundamentals and axes of the complex are rectilinear, like the earth. The symbolism of the temple was necessary since the building complex served as the setting in which the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, directly beseech Heaven to render good harvests throughout the land. This was important since agriculture was the foundation of China's wealth in the imperial period of time.

The principle of the architecture of the Temple of Heaven is to highlight the vast and lofty sky, and to express the supremacy of Heaven.

The architecture was designed by the Ming emperor Shizong. The exterior of this temple is round. Standing on the three-layer marble base are three levels with sloping eaves.
