Common Base Configuration of BJT:
In the Common Base (CB)configuration, the base terminal is common for the input and the output signals.
The input signal is applied between the emitter and the base terminal, while the output is measured between the base and the collector terminal.
These are the few properties of the CB configuration:
1) Input Impedance or resistance: Very Low ≈ 50Ω to 150Ω
2) Output Impedance or Resistance: Very High ≈ KΩ to MΩ Range
3) Current Gain: Low ( less than 1)
4) Voltage gain: High (100 to 2000)
5) Power gain: ≈ Unity (0 dB)
6) Signal phase: In-phase (0⁰)
7) Application: High frequency, Impedance matching and Current Buffers
In this deep-dive tutorial, we break down the complexities of the BJT Common Base setup. We move past the theory and get straight into the input and output characteristics using detailed graphical analysis. Finally, we reveal the "magic" behind how a signal actually gets amplified in this mode.
This video will be helpful to everyone in understanding the common base configuration of the BJT.
