An introduction to the use of ultrasound for the placement of Peripheral IV catheters for vascular access. This is part 3 of a 4 part series. Part 1 provides a context and rationale for the use of this technique, while Part 2 focuses on basic machine setup and settings that are useful for vascular access. Part 3 describes vascular access site and catheter selection and Part 4 describes the cannulation technique.
This presentation is not in itself adequate training to implement the described techniques, but can augment technical proficiency acquired through appropriately supervised, hands on training under an individual's legally and institutionally delineated scope of practice.
