Описание: Vaniyambadi is the major town in the northern part of Tamil Nadu. It is located about 200 km from Chennai and 178 kilometer from Bangalore. The Vaniyambadi Municipality was formed by the G.O. MS. No. 421 Local & Municipality Dept. dated 21.08.1885 by the British Government in April 1886. In 1996 this Municipality was upgraded to Grade II Municipality by G.O. MS. NO. 118 Rural Development Local Administration Dept. dated 01.05.1996. In 1998 this Municipality was upgraded to 1st Grade.

Lord Brahma once cursed mother Saraswathi to lose her sense of speech. Saraswathi came to Earth and reached Sringeri and began to meditate. Lord Brahma went in search of her and finally found her in Sringeri, convinced her and took her back to Heaven. While going back they reached this temple on the Northern belt of River Palar, stayed and worshipped Lord Shiva in Athitheeswarar alayam, old vaniyambadi. Lord Shiva pleased on her worship and gave back her speech. On getting back the speech mother Saraswathi sang here. Hence this place was called as Vaniyambadi.
Alagu perumal kovil located at periyapet, vaniyambadi town. Its main deity is Sundararaja Perumal. Inscription in the temple says that the temple was built by Maduran taka cholan in 11th century.

Poni amman kovil Ambur pet, Vaniyambadi is considered as the most powerful temple. People belonging to different area jointly organize poni amman thiruvila and gets blessings from the God. Many traditions are followed during this thiruvila.

Puthukovil in Natram pali is considered as powerful because many engineers planned to transfer the place of puthu as it is in the centre of highway but the power of puthu does not allow anyone to execute the plan. So an over bridge was built instead of transferring it.

The major percent of leather is exported from Vaniyambadi. It is the hub for finished leather goods. Coconut business in vaniyambadi raises the economy of vaniyambadi. Coconut is exported to several states like Gujarat Maharashtra, ap and Karnataka.

The height of the Jalagamparai Falls is about 15 meters. This cascade is created by the descent of River Attaru in the area. In order to reach the Jalagamparai Falls, one needs to take the 6 kilometers trek downhill from Nilavoor, which lasts approximately an hour.
