Types of white blood cell#shorts
There are five main types of white blood cells: neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils.
These cells are part of the immune system and help fight infection and disease.
They are sometimes categorized into two groups: granulocytes (neutrophils, eosinophils, and basophils) and agranulocytes (monocytes and lymphocytes).
Main types of white blood cells
Neutrophils:
These are the most numerous type and are the first to respond to bacterial and fungal infections.
Lymphocytes:
These include T cells, B cells, and natural killer cells.
They are crucial for the body's immune response, with B cells creating antibodies and T cells targeting specific invaders.
Monocytes:
These have a longer lifespan and circulate in the blood before moving into tissues, where they mature into macrophages that engulf and break down bacteria and other debris.
Eosinophils:
These cells target parasites and cancer cells and are involved in allergic responses.
Basophils:
These release chemicals like histamine, which are involved in allergic reactions and inflammation.
