Unity of cultures | Delilah Buitron and Megna Murali | TEDxKids@SMU

Описание: This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Kathak and Flamenco both originally came from India. The Gypsies began their journey in India, traveled thousands of miles, and encountered numerous other cultures and traditions before settling in Europe and the Americas. Although both styles originated in the same area of the world, each dance took centuries to create its own identity. After traveling thousands of miles from India to the United States over the course of fifteen hundred years, Kathak and Flamenco are back together again on the same stage.

Delilah Buitron is Co-Founder of The Flame Foundation and Artistic Director of The Dallas Flamenco Festival and Director of Estudio Flamenco Dallas. She is a native Texan from Laredo and received her BFA in Theatre and T.V. Communications from the illustrious Hofstra University in New York.
Megna Murali’s interest in dance started at a very young age and she was formally inducted into the Indian Classical Bharathanatyam, a style from South India, at the tender age of four. After she performed her debut performance in 2006, she started to learn Kathak, a classical Indian style from North India. She is currently studying at SMU as an Environmental and Political Science major hoping to save the environment, as well.
