SHAKEUP IN BOULDER: Livingston Out, Chris Marve In as Defensive Coordinator

In a move that keeps him in the state but shifts him to the pros, Colorado defensive coordinator Robert Livingston is officially heading to the NFL to join Sean Payton’s staff with the Denver Broncos. Livingston will serve as the Defensive Pass Game Coordinator, reuniting with Broncos DC Vance Joseph—a pair that previously worked together during their time with the Cincinnati Bengals.  

Livingston’s impact in Boulder was undeniable. He took a 2023 unit that ranked 124th in the nation (allowing 34.8 PPG) and transformed them into the 42nd ranked scoring defense in 2024 (23.1 PPG). While the 2025 season saw some regression following the departure of stars like Travis Hunter and Shilo Sanders, Livingston's "NFL-style" scheme proved it could compete at the highest level of the Big 12.  

Enter Chris Marve. Coach Prime didn't look far for a replacement, swiftly promoting recently-hired linebackers coach Chris Marve to the DC role. Marve is no stranger to the "hot seat" of a Power Five coordinator position:  

Virginia Tech (2022–2024): As DC, he led a unit that ranked in the Top 20 in Total Defense in 2023 and finished 2nd in the ACC in that category.  

The Aggressor: In 2024, his Hokies defense racked up 37 sacks and 15 interceptions.

Coaching Pedigree: A former 4-time All-SEC linebacker at Vanderbilt, Marve has spent time honing his craft at Florida State and Mississippi State before arriving in Boulder.
