so... finally. my debut album is out. you don’t know how long i’ve waited for this moment.

I’ve been working on this on and off since January 2024. I planned to have it out that year but it took me longer than expected (but in the end I think that was a blessing in disguise). However this is really more the culmination of 9 years of practicing music production and hundreds of different ideas along the way.

The general idea for this album came to me around late 2018, but had changed again and again, in many little ways over that time, which makes sense considering I was maturing and also exposing myself to lots of different music as time progressed.

What this album is really about, to me, is being your authentic self. Letting your vision/your world come to life. Being unafraid to do that thing, act on that spark, even if it makes you seem weird or strange to others. I don’t mean this in a faux-inspirational way; I mean really challenging the norms and ideas of what’s acceptable, and being unashamed of your true self, no matter what others think of you. And this doesn’t just apply to music, it applies to all forms of art and expression, personal identity, social work, politics, etc. (obv im not saying you can be like a bigot or a nazi or smth but I think you get what im saying 😭)

In an age where no one really wants to try, where the goal is to consume and make content as opposed to something you’re truly proud of, where media creation (especially online) feels inauthentic and almost cynical, I want to encourage people to be weird. To really find something they’re passionate about, recognize the gifts they have and the good they can bring, and never shut up about any of it. That’s really the ethos of this album, to be unapologetically yourself in all of your endeavors, stand on your beliefs and morals, even if they’re unpopular, and never capitulate to the people who think that’s just annoying.

Another one of my main motivations for this project was that I wanted to make something that pushes the boundaries and scope of what future funk, a historically very formulaic genre, can be. With this album I attempted to blend future funk with elements of french house, plunderphonics, and instrumental hip hop, but especially plunderphonics; I’ve become super passionate about the genre over the past few years, and it’s completely changed the way I view sampling as a whole. So inevitably I had to have some form of it in this project.

The word “Mosaica” to me isn’t just a reflection of the fact that this album is sample based (like im snipping together samples to form a “mosaic”), but also the idea that your vision and perspectives are the sum of everything you’ve experienced (like how these songs are the culmination of hundreds of things I’ve experienced over the past several years), and in turn, individual views and perspectives fit into whole, lived experiences and cultures.

Either way, I’ve spent the better part of the past decade practicing music, and finally, this is what I have to show for it. Hope you enjoy :)
