I'm steadily approaching 1,000 videos now, so every now and again I feel the need to revisit old ones or create collections of those with common themes. The theme here is the backstreets of Lincoln's East End, the area east of the city centre and north of the river, with Monks Road acting as the spine between dozens of old terraced streets.
This area of Lincoln expanded rapidly in the second half of the 19th century, especially after the railway came in the 1840s and stimulated the new heavy industries that developed along the river east of the city centre. The housing here was built for the workers in those factories and their families. As many of those factories closed in the late 20th century the nature of the area changed, with many of the old streets being demolished and new housing built, especially in the 1960s.
But these videos concentrate on the old terraced streets and their residents. They are, in the order they appear; Vine Street, Florence Street, Oakfield Street at the junction with Winn Street, Ashfield Street, Cheviot Street with the old gas lighter, Fenton Place West, Fenton Place East and the Salutation Inn, and finally Croft Street featuring the Heneage Arms.
You will see the old power station, several old shops as well as lost pubs, and how cars have taken over the streets of Lincoln. Of course this isn't an exhaustive collection of the streets in the area. For more please use the search facility...
