1. It’s a trap. Law enforcement has come to get you to make an incriminating statement. While you’re’ under investigation, the law enforcement can use any trick to cajole you into making a statement.

2. It won’t help. Detectives don’t have authority to help you, only prosecutors do. That is the reason why you need a NYC criminal lawyer– to help you and guide you through the process.

3. You can’t outwit the police. They know why they’ve come to see you and will never tell why they are there. They will simply ask questions.

4. You may be selling yourself cheap. If you’re guilty of some crime, there can be a deal that can be made between your attorney and the prosecuting attorney. And it’s only the attorneys who can make that deal.

5. You need to understand the process before talking. There’s a process that those under investigation can use to impart information to authorities. A lawyer can help with the process.
