Minister Kono Taro - 33rd Annual Dinner Marshall Green Award Address

Описание: Each year the Japan-America Society of Washington DC is able to recognize "an individual or group that has made a sustained and significant contribution to strengthening relations between the United States and Japan" through the Marshall Green Award. The Japan-America Society of Washington DC presented the Marshall Green award for 2019 to the Japanese Minister of Defense, the Honorable Kono Taro.

Kono Taro is an eight-term Member of the House of Representatives. He has been Minister of Defense in the Abe Government since September 11, 2019. Among positions he has held are Foreign Minister; Chairman of the National Public Safety Commission, or Minister in charge of the National Police Organization; and Minister for Administrative Reform. Minister Kono is a graduate of the School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University. He was Chairman of the Japan Race Horse Association and Chairman of the Shonan Bellmare Football Club, the 1995 Asia Champion Soccer Club. He is married to Kaori and has a son, Ippei.

The U.S.-Japan relationship is a treasured American national asset. Managing the relationship is complex and challenging. Minister Kono, through his official duties and private friendships, has been a central figure in navigating these complexities and promoting the understanding and cooperation between the United States and Japan that has allowed our alliance and broader relationship to thrive.
