Mgahinga is one of only two parks in Uganda where you can trek to see mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. It’s home to the Nyakagezi gorilla family, known for being relatively easy to track due to their stable range.
The walk from the car park to the gorilla trekking start point in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is a moderate uphill hike through scenic terrain, but it can be challenging depending on your fitness level and weather conditions.
As you will see, I found it very challenging! You are climbing a steep path at an altitude of around 9,000 feet. At 9,000 feet (2,743 meters), the oxygen level is approximately 14.8%. This is lower than at sea level, where oxygen is around 21% of the air.
