A segment from the long running Australian music TV series Countdown, which aired on the ABC from 1974-1987.
This particular segment aired during the Countdown episode which originally aired on February 3, 1980, on the ABC.
This clip features an interview of KISS lead singer Paul Stanley, via telephone from New York City, conducted by Countdown Talent Co-Ordinator Molly Meldrum.
The interview begins with a discussion about the success of KISS' single 'I Was Made For Lovin' You' and album 'Dynasty', particularly in Australia. The interview then proceeds to discuss KISS touring in Australia later in 1980, and how much a KISS concert costs to stage.
The segment ends with Molly Meldrum leading into Fleetwood Mac's 'Sara'.
Vaxfacts: Paul Stanley mentions to Molly that KISS would be out in Australia in September or October of 1980. In actual fact, it ended up being November, with KISS playing the major capital cities around Australia. Their Melbourne concert was played at then VFL Park (now Waverley Park), in the outer south-eastern suburb of Mulgrave, one of Australian Rules Football's then main stadiums. Today, it exists mainly as a training ground for the Hawthorn Football Club, and residential land, after its closure in 2000. The stadium is situated about 4km from Vaxman80's residence, and within 2km from Vaxman80's place of employment.
