The Currah Microspeech from 1983 is an add-on cartridge for the ZX Spectrum computer that gives it the ability to speak, mimicking the keys and keywords from the computer’s keyboard, but can also be programmed from BASIC and machine code to speak out any words. Additionally, some games supported Microspeech, including Mystic Tower, demonstrated in this video.
The video starts with me showing the Microspeech hardware and explaining how it’s connected up, followed by how to use it from the computer (I’ve used the EightyOne emulator to make recording easier). This is followed by me showing both sides of the demo tape included with Microspeech, giving an overview of how to use it and gameplay of the aforementioned Mystic Tower.
