Running From The Aliens is one of the tracks that shaped the way I think about rhythm.
Virgil Donati has been one of my strongest musical influences for many years.
I’ve listened deeply to all his work: his solo records, the early OTV albums, and Planet X.
His way of writing rhythm, building polyrhythms and interlocking parts has been a constant reference for my own music.
I had the chance to see him live only once, in Verona, and it was an incredibly emotional experience for me.
I’ve always felt like a drummer playing the piano.
Being able, for the first time in a video, to actually play the drums on one of his pieces (even if only for a short and relatively simple section of the track) feels like an honour.
I love rhythmic structures, polyrhythms and the way Virgil Donati composes, and I try to bring that approach into my own music as well.
In many ways, Virgil has been a decisive influence on the musician I became.
