Inspirational education activist and Pakistani school pupil, Malala Yousafzai came to the Edinburgh International Book Festival to talk to a packed theatre full of teenagers.
At the age of 11 Malala was writing a blog under a pseudonym detailing life in the Swat Valley under Taliban rule. She rose to prominence following a New York Times documentary and was nominated for the International Children’s Peace Prize by Desmond Tutu. Then, on the morning of Tues 9 Oct 2012, Malala boarded her school bus; a gunman followed, asked for Malala by name, then pointed a gun at her and fired three shots. One bullet hit the left side of Malala's forehead, travelled under her skin the length of her face and then into her shoulder.
Malala is an outspoken and strident supporter of education for girls and women. In this event, filmed live at Edinburgh International Book Festival, she talks about her life and her determination that everyone has the right to an education. She launches her new book, Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Changed the World.
