Cylindrical roller bearings provide great lateral load capacity, sacrificing their maximum load cap in thrust (axial movement). That’s why precise thrust control is crucial for bearing’s longevity and reliability. RND Roller Bearing IMS Retrofit kit is the only solution on the market that uses proper heat treated, 52100 bearing steel thrust surfaces on both sides. Features a genuine Koyo NUP204E or equivalent Genuine FAG, SKF, or NSK bearing. Only the best cylindrical roller bearing we could source for our RS Roller IMS Retrofit Kit.
A deep groove ball bearing is capable of managing 50% of the total load capacity as thrust force. On the other hand, roller bearings can only handle 10% of the total load as thrust and most roller bearings lack the ability to manage thrust forces in both directions. This is why roller bearings are often combined with ball bearings in transmissions, where the ball bearing manages thrust control. The RND roller bearing kit, employs a specially designed cylindrical roller bearing with an expanded load capacity and integrated thrust control. This unique design allows it to manage thrust loads in both directions internally, a feature not present in any other roller bearing IMS kit.
The original single row 6204 bearing utilized in Porsche Boxster, 996, and early 997 engines from 2000 to 2005 has a dynamic load capacity of 2900 lbs., with a maximum thrust load rating of 1450 lbs. In contrast, the NJ or NU204 cylindrical bearing, found in alternative roller bearing IMS kits, boasts a dynamic load capacity of 3750 lbs., accompanied by a thrust max load rating of 375 lbs. While the cylindrical bearing presents a 29% higher load capacity, its thrust capacity amounts to only 26% of the deep groove 6204 bearing's capability. Claims made by other manufacturers asserting that their roller IMS bearing is five times more robust are considerably misleading.
The proprietary cylindrical roller bearing featured in the RND RS Roller IMS Bearing Retrofit excels with a superior dynamic load capacity of 5800 lbs., of which 580 lbs. can be supported as thrust force. Unlike other replacements for roller IMS bearings, the RND RS Roller IMS Bearing Retrofit kit does not necessitate additional forced lubrication, such as a Direct Oil Feed (DOF). This is due to the fact that the bearing is partially submerged in oil during standard operation, rendering it unnecessary.
Similar to our IMS Retrofit bearing replacement kits, we provide tailored versions of our roller IMS bearing upgrades to suit the specific configuration of your M96 engine, whether it's equipped with a factory dual row or single row IMS bearing. In contrast to alternative kits that employ an oversized bearing, which hinders the secure attachment of a bearing circlip or spiroloc, the RND RS Roller IMS Bearing Retrofit incorporates a slimmer bearing design that facilitates proper retention. For the dual row kit, a spiroloc is utilized, while the original circlip is retained for the single row kit. In cases of Boxster and 996 engines necessitating a dual row bearing, a spacer is included in the kit to compensate for the variance in bearing width.
The only tool necessary for the installation of the RND RS Cylindrical Roller IMS Bearing replacement in Porsche Boxster and 911 models, irrespective of whether they feature the dual row or single row IMS bearing, is the LN Engineering IMS Pro Tool Kit, identified by part number 106-08.13. No alterations to the engine case or oiling system are needed for this installation process.
Manufactured by LN Engineering, LLC for Porsche Boxster and 911 996 models with the M96 engine, the RND RS Roller IMS Bearing Replacement sports a 2-year/24,000 miles limited parts warranty with professional installation, proper IMS procedure pre-qualification, and qualifying bearing registration. The RND RS Roller IMS Bearing Replacement has a recommended service interval 6 years or 75,000 miles, whichever comes first.
