About time I finally did a suite of one of my favorite scores of 2023, which recently won the Best Original Score award at the Spanish Academy Awards. Michael Giacchino is one of my favorite composers, and here he brings back many of the tools that made his score for LOST work so well, with soft but emotional piano themes, breathy chords, and minimalist orchestrations for the most part, which really help to enhance the isolation and despair the movie portrays.
But that main melodic idea also serves as a hint of hope amidst the tragedy. It's the main theme of the movie and it ties all the survivors together under the same melody, from the very beginning of the film, to the moment Nando and Roberto finally come across some much needed help. It's sparsely used but really makes an impact when it appears.
