দলীয় শৃঙ্খলা ভঙ্গ এবং নানা অনিয়মের অভিযোগে তাকে এই অব্যাহতি দেওয়া হয়। একই সঙ্গে তাকে কারণ দর্শানোর নোটিশ পাঠানো হয়েছে।
২১ এপ্রিল রাতে এনসিপির যুগ্ম সদস্যসচিব (দপ্তর) সালেহ উদ্দিন সিফাত স্বাক্ষরিত এক চিঠিতে তানভীরকে এই সিদ্ধান্তের কথা জানানো হয়।

National Citizens Party (NCP) Joint Member Secretary Gazi Salauddin Tanvir has been temporarily suspended.
He was suspended on charges of violating party discipline and various irregularities. At the same time, a show cause notice has been sent to him.
Tanvir was informed of this decision in a letter signed by NCP Joint Member Secretary (Office) Salehuddin Sifat on the night of April 21.
