This time, more than 20 lakh students appeared for the NEET re-exam on 21st June across 5,440 centres in India and 14 centres abroad.
However, this number was lower than the May NEET exam, in which more than 22 lakh students had appeared before it was cancelled due to paper leak allegations.
The re-examination was conducted in 13 languages, including Hindi and English. The paper was largely NCERT-focused. According to students, this paper was more demanding and challenging than the May exam because it was longer and involved more calculations, especially in Physics.
Many students described Physics as the toughest section. Chemistry was considered moderately difficult, while Biology was mostly NCERT-based and comparatively easier.
To ensure that candidates faced no problems during the examination, special arrangements were made for their health and specific requirements. According to the NTA, extensive arrangements were made for around 10,000 Divyang candidates. Special provisions were also made for 81 candidates suffering from medical conditions. Divyang candidates were provided compensatory time to complete their examination.
For security and transparency, Aadhaar-based biometric verification and face authentication were used. CCTV monitoring was carried out, signal jammers were installed, and with the help of state police forces, two-layer frisking was conducted, meaning candidates underwent security checks twice.
Command and Control Centres were also established for monitoring exam centres. These centres operated at the national level, including at the NTA, the Ministry of Education, 34 centrally funded institutions, and in state and district collectorates.
Many state governments arranged facilities such as shade, drinking water, food, ambulances and medical support for students and parents. Several states also provided free transportation to candidates on the exam day.
To conduct the examination across India, nearly 7 lakh officials were deployed, including police personnel, observers and examination staff.
According to the NTA, more than 95,000 examination rooms were under CCTV surveillance, and 1,38,560 CCTV cameras were installed. Their feeds were continuously monitored virtually at the national, state and ministry levels.
To make the examination secure and transparent and to prevent electronic malpractice, 51,311 signal jammers were installed. These jammers block mobile phone signals and wireless communication devices.
