(3 Apr 2017) Devastation was visible in the Progreso neighborhood of Mocoa in southern Colombia, following deadly mudslides that killed and injured hundreds over the weekend.
Progeso, which means progress, is one of the poorest areas and one of 17 neighbourhoods hardest hit after heavy rain caused at least three of six rivers around Mocoa to rise and surge through the city of 40,000 on Friday night and early Saturday as people slept.
The Sangoyaco River, now back to its normal state, still runs through the neighbourhood where at least 10 were killed.
The government said the official death toll had increased to 262, though it was likely to rise as the rivers begin to recede and more human remains emerge.
