In this video, I'm cloning the EQ functionality of the Eventide SplitEQ plugin. Even though my plugin chain does similar things to the SplitEQ, the separation method between the transient and tonal parts is entirely different. My plugin chain uses a traditional full bandwidth transient designer. So, if I boost the transient part at 5000Hz, this area will be boosted on every kick hit even though there are no transients in the 5000Hz region. SplitEQ seems to be using some sort of FFT-based method for splitting, similar to oeksound spiff. However, I've found this plugin chain extremely useful in various mixing and mastering situations, so I wanted to share this with you, not as a replacement but as an alternative.
I'm interested in trying spiff as the splitting plugin since it seems to have very advanced transient detection. Also, the analog or partly analog version would be a cool experiment. I also have an idea of how to do this with any DAW.
Please let me know if these ideas are interesting to you!
