Designing electric motors for electric vehicles (EVs) and industrial applications involves balancing multiple, often competing, performance goals — including energy efficiency, power density, thermal management, compactness, and mechanical reliability. Among various motor topologies, axial flux machines (AFMs) have emerged as a promising solution due to their high torque-to-weight ratio, compact form factor, and improved cooling capabilities.
In this free webinar, we will demonstrate how COMSOL Multiphysics® can be used to simulate and optimize axial flux motors for both automotive and industrial use cases. We’ll demonstrate how to model the machine geometry, compute electromagnetic torque, analyze copper and iron losses, and evaluate motor efficiency across operating conditions. We will also discuss how static and time-dependent simulations can guide performance improvements and design tradeoffs.
