Narcissists cause emotional abuse and create toxic relationships. Through gaslighting and invalidation they have you question your reality and your own thoughts and feelings. The manipulation and control they use can be overwhelming and devastating. Narcissistic Personality Disorder, or even just people with narcissism or narcissists, need others to refill their narcissist supply and this is why they act the way they do. So what is difference between overt and covert narcissist? Both overt and covert narcissist have the same traits, but overt narcissists are more outward in their control and manipulation while covert narcissists use more underhanded techniques. While I am focused on where narcissism can be bad, can narcissism be good? Yes, some level of narcissism can be good but when there are issues in a toxic relationship it is usually because of the negatives from the relationship and not the positive. When you can understand the difference between an overt and covert narcissist then you can better protect yourself from the various techniques they use to gain control. If left unaddressed, narcissism in toxic relationships can lead to abuse and divorce or separation. Invalidation is damaging to the relationship and you deserve better. If you have left the relationship with the overt narcissist or the covert narcissist, hoovering might occur to get you back, but stay strong!
