Follow this family of tanagers from the eggs hatching to the chicks making their first flight.
Blue-necked Tanager, Tangara cyanicollis

I spotted two Blue-necked tanagers from my office window that were frequenting a tree near our house a little more often than normal. On closer inspection I found that they were nesting in amongst the dead branches. I set the camera up and managed to capture the mother taking away one of the egg shell and shortly after the first food being bought to the newly born chicks.
Six days later and I had built a big enough tripod so that I could get a better angle on the nest. So as to not disturb the birds I was using a 300mm lens which gave a nice view even at five meters away.
The chicks of course grew rapidly and I filmed many hours of feeding of which the best shots were used for the video.
There were two unfortunate incidents where I intervened to help the chicks. The first was caused by bad weather and the second was the arrival of some predators.
If these birds were out in the wild then I would not have assisted in any way, but I felt that since they chose to nest so close to our house they were already using us as protection from predators (namely the local squirrels). Fortunately the parents did not mind the extra help.
