I was challenged to write a Far East flavored tune a few weeks ago. I know nothing about traditional music from that area, so what I did is I wrote a song much like I usually do but added in the Erhu, Shamisen and Koto to give it that feel. The major percussive elements are also from that area of the world, lots of Taikos, small cymbals and other oddities.

I don't know if I can call it a success but it was a lot of fun to write. It's always fun to do things I don't feel comfortable with so while the writing and mixing might suffer I feel it's a good way for me to learn new things. So keep the challenges coming!
