GFoRSS is pleased to highlight an important outcome from the 48th Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC48), where the Near East region, together with strong representation from the African region, saw the election of key leadership positions that will shape future Codex work and further strengthen the engagement of Arab countries and both regions in the Codex work.

The Sultanate of Oman was re-appointed as the Regional Coordinator for the Near East (CCNE), following the nomination of CCNE and in accordance with Codex procedures. This re-appointment reflects the trust placed in Oman’s leadership and its continued commitment to advancing coordinated regional positions and strengthening participation across Codex work.

Morocco was re-elected as the Member of the Executive Committee representing the Africa region, reaffirming its active contribution to Codex governance and continued leadership in strengthening science-based food standards across the continent.

The United Arab Emirates was elected as the Member of the Executive Committee representing the Near East region, underscoring its growing role in global food safety, standard setting, and risk analysis.

These elections highlight the region’s united commitment to:
• Strengthening Arab and regional leadership within Codex
• Advancing coordinated, science-based positions
• Enhancing representation of regional priorities in global food standard-setting
• Supporting the implementation of the Codex Strategic Plan 2026–2031

GFoRSS congratulates Oman, Morocco, and the United Arab Emirates on their appointments and looks forward to continued collaboration in supporting effective and impactful engagement across Codex processes.
