Possible Surgical Procedures to Address Multiple Folds on the Upper Eyelids

Fillers are soft and they can only maintain a certain amount of cohesive shape in various tissue spaces before they start becoming soft, which is why a lot of people who get excess fillers look abnormal because it just starts to lose their shape.

Dr. Prasad suggests that she consider an option such as an upper eyelid blepharoplasty. The reason why she has these folds is due to the limitations of the way the muscle called the levator muscle interdigitates or connects with the skin. The levator muscle is responsible for lifting the eyelid and creates a crease in the upper eyelid skin. Its muscle fibers have different insertions in both eyes.

Sometimes, Dr. Prasad will address any excess skin and try to anchor it to get the skin to fold in so there aren’t as many folds. However, he explains it’s a tricky procedure. It’s not always feasible because one must have to have enough skin to close their eyes properly. If there is no excess skin, then she doesn’t really have that many options. Sometimes, he would do a non-surgical or non-incisional crease formation by anchoring with the skin. The difference with Asian Eyelid surgery is that there is skin that overlaps and allows him to camouflage or hide any work that’s done in the crease. In her situation, that is not probably practical.

Dr. Prasad recommends meeting with qualified experienced cosmetic surgeons who do a lot of eyelid surgery. It’s important that she meet with doctors who have a lot of experience. As someone who has been in practice for over 20 years, there are many things he knows today because he has tried different things along the way and learned from those experiences. He suggests that she meet with cosmetic surgeons, learn about her options and also determine what would ultimately make her happy. It may not be possible to achieve what she wants so it may not be worthwhile for her to do anything at all. However, she must at least learn by having a proper physical examination.
