Did you know?
That there was once an open stream running along the City Centre of Glasgow?
a Trout Stream with Trees flourishing all the way down its path from Springburn to the River Clyde.
This River was known as The St Enoch Burn, and was openly flowing down Mitchell Street until the mid 1700s when it was cobbled over to help grow the surrounding City of Glasgow.
During this time the Village of Grahamston was thriving with its massive population and yearly expansion towards the Boundary Line of Glasgow.
This Boundary Line was on Mitchell Street where a Farmhouse was built next to the St Enoch Burn.
You can still see the Crooked patterns of old Grahamston to this day - Along West Nile Street, Mitchell Lane and Mitchell Street.
Overtime the St Enoch Burn became an important part of the Glasgow Sewer System - much like the Whiteinch Burn and the Garngad Burn.
This Burn the second oldest known to Glasgow’s history - dating back to the time of St Mungo when the Molendinar Burn was Glasgow’s first open and flowing water source in the late 6th Century.
St Enoch is St Mungos Mothers, which the Burn and St Enoch Square are named after.
Long Live Grahamston 🏴
