Before performing this loose body manipulation in the knee, make sure the diagnosis is correct. Typical elements in the history of the patient are : intermittent twinges, a feeling of giving way, perhaps momentary locking of the knee and most likely some shifting pain. This is more often seen in more arthrotic joints.
In case of bony loose bodies which are visible on medical imaging, this technique is contraindicated.
