Описание: SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Wednesday, March 4, 2026 — Santa Monica police officers on routine patrol along Santa Monica Boulevard issued a citation Wednesday to a man who appeared to be experiencing homelessness after officers observed him smoking in a designated no-smoking area.

According to what was witnessed at the scene, the individual was sitting on the ground a few feet from the entrance of a retail store when officers approached and addressed the apparent violation. The citation was issued without incident.

Santa Monica Municipal Code §4.44.020 prohibits smoking in several public locations, including parks, beaches, and promenades, as well as within twenty feet of the entrance, exit, or open window of any building open to the public. The regulation is intended to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke and maintain public health standards in shared spaces.

Following the brief interaction, officers completed the citation process and cleared the scene without further enforcement action.
