Source of Gold Coast COVID outbreak under investigation

Описание: Queensland contact tracers are working in overdrive to determine the source of the state’s latest COVID-19 outbreak after three new infections were recorded on Wednesday.

Of particular concern is the case involving a 32-year-old Gold Coast man who, health authorities believe, was possibly infectious in the community for up to six days.

The state’s other cases involve an unvaccinated First Nations man from Warwick and a traveller in hotel quarantine who poses no threat to the community.

The Deputy Chief Health Officer Lynne McKinlay urged residents to get vaccinated.

“I would like to just, I suppose, reiterate something that Dr Aitken’s said yesterday, which I think is really important,” she told reporters.

“The data coming out of New South Wales; they did a big study of their recent outbreak there, and they showed that if you are unvaccinated, you are 16 times more likely to get really sick and go to an intensive care unit or to die.

“Please, please get vaccinated.”
