Hank Azaria apologises for voicing Apu in The Simpsons

The voice actor behind the controversial Apu character in ‘The Simpsons’ has apologised for playing the role because he is white – saying he feels he needs to say sorry to “every single Indian person in this country”.
Hank Azaria stood down from his role last January after voicing the character for 30 years amid controversy surrounding race.
Mr Azaria appeared on Dax Shepard’s ‘Armchair Expert’ podcast and apologised.
“I apologise for my part in creating that and participating in that”, he said.
“Part of me feels I need to go round to every single Indian person in this country and apologise."
It comes after comedian Hari Kondabolu released a documentary in 2017 called ‘The Problem with Apu’ where he sheds a light on racism surrounding the character.
