The adhesive that comes with new gaiters works for a little while, but it will inevitably peel off. We've found the most durable method is to use epoxy glue, which will easily outlast the shoe itself.
You can get Araldite from Woolies or Coles for this, but a flexible, marine-grade epoxy is even better.
Here is the step-by-step process:
Thoroughly clean the heel of your shoe with rubbing alcohol.
Squeeze equal parts of the two-part epoxy onto a piece of scrap cardboard.
Mix them together with a toothpick. Once it is thick and doesn’t drip off the toothpick, it is ready to use.
Apply a thin, even layer of the mixed epoxy to the area on your shoe where the velcro will sit.
Cut your velcro to the desired size, rounding the corners to prevent them from catching and peeling later.
Firmly press the velcro onto the epoxy. You can also apply the glue to the back of the velcro before sticking it onto the shoe for best results.
Use a rubber band or tape to hold it securely in place while it cures (usually around 24 hours).
This simple fix provides a bombproof attachment that will last the lifetime of the shoe 🥾
