Описание: This vlog is about Kumartuli and its Artists. I convey my respect to all the artists who have cooperated with me and made this video possible. It is my small initiative to highlight the difficulties they are facing and the harsh reality of their lives.
QUICK DESCRIPTION- Kumartuli (Kumar/kumor=potters) is the placed situated in north Kolkata and famous for its sculpting prowess. The artists of kumartuli make idols for various festivals specially DURGA PUJA. They also export them to other countries and even to abroad.
For us Bengalis, Durga Puja is the much awaited time of the year and the whole city transforms into a magical celebration. Durga puja is just 12 days away when I am shooting this.
In this video I would like to take you all to the place where the idols are actually made and will try to focus on the artists who don’t gain much recognition but are very passionate about their work. They work in the narrow, small yet majestic looking workshops with great concentration and giving life to Durga Maa.
Our culture, emotion, heritage all is very much associated to Kumartuli and this is a small tribute from my side to all the idol makers of kumartuli.
