Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) on Tuesday went after Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche over comments he made about people who associated with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
“I’m highly disturbed that Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche just got the law wrong. Yesterday, he said, essentially, that it is not a crime to party with Jeffrey Epstein. Well, that’s actually not correct,” Lieu said during a press conference.
“If Jeffrey Epstein was human trafficking minors for these sex parties, and you show up and patronize the establishment at that party, yes, you’re guilty, because patronizing is part of the law, the federal sex trafficking law, so [Blanche] just got that wrong, which maybe explains why they aren’t investigating all these folks, including Donald Trump. He needs to read the law and investigate these people,” he added in comments highlighted by Mediaite.
On Monday, Blanche said there is a possibility anyone who attended parties alongside Epstein could face prosecution. However, he also said it wasn’t a crime to attend the parties.
“Well, look, I’ll never say no, and we will always investigate any evidence of misconduct, but as you know, it’s not a crime to party with Mr. Epstein,” Blanche told Fox News’s Laura Ingraham. “So as horrible as it — it’s not a crime to email with Mr. Epstein.”
